Verification process change keeps benefit plan member information safe

A few extra clicks will go a long way in keeping the personal information and accounts of benefit plan members safe.

Canada Life is the coverage provider for the extended health care and dental plans for Saskatchewan health-care system employees that are administered by 3sHealth. To better protect plan member accounts and personal information, Canada Life has announced that all users of its My Canada Life at Work portal are now required to use two-step verification to log in to their accounts.

Why is this being made mandatory?

Identity theft and other scams are a day-to-day reality on the internet. There are many ways for online crooks to break into websites and steal people’s personal or banking information. Your My Canada Life at Work account contains significant personal and financial information that should remain private.

Two-step verification is the industry standard for protecting accounts and applications that contain sensitive personal information. Canada Life has provided this as an option to plan members for years, and Canada Life has now made the decision to enable it for all users in order to prioritize the safety of all accounts.

How does it work?

Two-step verification creates a safe, reliable link between your account and the email address you used to sign up for My Canada Life at Work to protect your personal information. When you attempt to log in, the automated system guarantees that it’s actually you by sending a unique, one-time-use code to your email address that must be entered to complete the sign-in process.

This means anyone else trying to sign into your account will be unable to complete that last step, protecting your personal information.

If you ever receive a code when you aren’t trying to sign in, you can report that suspicious activity directly to Canada Life.

What do I need to do?

Because two-step verification utilizes your email address to confirm your identity, it is important that you still use and have access to that email account. If necessary, members can update their sign-in email address or password in the security setting found in their profile on My Canada Life at Work.

You should see an article in your My Canada Life at Work inbox with more information and other tips to enhance your account’s safety. You can also visit their Internet security page for more details.
