In last year’s budget, the government announced plans to enhance the program, providing dental coverage for all uninsured Canadians with a family income of less than $90,000 (with no copayments for those whose family income is under $70,000).

The Canada Dental Benefit does not impact your eligibility for dental coverage through your employer. If you have dental coverage through your employer, you will not be eligible for this federal benefit.

As a result of the legislative requirements, you will be seeing a new section on your T4 and/or T4A tax forms in the new year. Your dental coverage will be reported in Box 45 for T4s and in Box 15 for T4As. 

For 2023 tax documents, your dental coverage will be displayed as one of two codes: Code 1, which means you have no dental coverage as of December 31, 2023, and Code 3, which means you have dental coverage for yourself, your spouse, and dependent children as of December 31, 2023. 

Your employer sends you a T4 detailing your employment income. 

3sHealth Employee Benefits will send plan members a T4A if they received any short-term and/or long-term disability income in 2023.
